winfield

We finished our first-ever tournament with a strong fourth place showing. We beat each team in our bracket for an incredible 3-0 start. Here are some of the highlights in case you missed us on Sportscenter.

Game One
Game one had us facing tournament host and eventual second place finishers Winfield Wolves. In our most dominant game to date, we shut out Winfield 8-0 in a flawlessly played two hit shutout. Bowen pitched two for the win, Brendan got a hold for pitching the third and fourth and Colin struck out two for the save.

Game Two
Game two had us against our archrivals, the Darien Hornets. After they put up a quick two in the first, we answered with two in the second off run scoring hits by Dryden and Joseph. Dryden drove in Bowen for the second time that game in the fourth to put us up 3-2. In the top of the sixth, Michael took one for the team square on the right calf. We pinch ran Colin for him who stole second and third and scored for the go ahead run on a single up the middle by Brendan. Brendan closed out the inning for the exciting victory!

Game Three
Game three opponents, the Carol Stream Cougars are a team we split two games with during the regular season. After the Cougars scored once in the top of the first, Colin’s leadoff triple opened up 7 run first inning where each of our first seven batters scored.

The Championship Bracket
We got knocked out of the championship bracket by eventual champion Lockport in a heartbreaking 7-6 loss in which we surrendered a 6-1 lead. Lockport scored a run in the bottom of the 6th inning that broke the 6-6 tie and sent us to the consolation game. There we met up a tough Carol Stream Thunder team who came back from a 2-0 deficit to beat us 16-4.

Congratulations to our players on a well played tournament and fourth place finish in a competitive Summer Slam tournament.
